Some people win a major prize on the lottery and wait until redecorating is finished to claim it. But imagine your prize claim being delayed by one of the worst storms to ever hit the British Isles. That’s what happened to one Munster (Eire) resident at the end of February. Beginning on the 26th February, it was finally classified as a storm over The Azores. Western Europe could only cross its fingers and hope as it headed for Iberia. Later, it would hit the British Isles before coming to a close on 5th March. It brought unseasonably cold weather and a lot of snow.
Prize Claim Finally Goes Through
While all this was going on, one eager winner was waiting for the storm to pass. They were waiting a prize claim worth €500,000 (around £435,000) from the 23rd February EuroMillions draw. Unable to drive to the lottery HQ to claim their prize, they had to sit out the wind, rain, cold and snow. It was harrowing for the family knowing there was such a large prize to collect. Nevertheless, the storm passed and the lucky family was able to claim the prize. On the day of the discovery of the win, a neighbour visited. The winner had to lock themselves in the bathroom to contain their excitement.
After the prize claim completed, the excited winner (who chose to remain unnamed) said a holiday was due. First, they would take all the family on a foreign holiday, the first in over 20 years. They felt “fortunate” that the mortgage was already paid off but that they would help out their three children who are “just starting out in life”. No further details were forthcoming about the family, but we do know the ticket sale went through in the Spar shop in Borrisokane, County Tipperary
